It's a large... read more area over multiple sheds, each have a great range of things being sold, catering for mainly locals you get great prices and variety, I had lunch here most days and the choices were very good.

Note that it's not just inside but outside stalls, also great for daily fruit and veggies!!

  Huge! Go early. - Riga Central Market is situated in the heart of Riga, a short walk from the Old Town. It is one of the largest marketplaces in Eastern Europe. Huge!... read more Clean. I literally went to browse. At Riga Central Market, you can buy Latvian-grown and homemade products, exotic fruit and spices, as well as manufactured merchandise. The market includes various pavilions each with its own category from vegetables, dairy, meat, fish and gastronomy products, as well as an outdoor area with stalls and stands. There are also places where you can get a bite to eat. I went around 12:30 in the afternoon. It was busy, but not as busy as I expected. However, I would suggest going earlier. Most of the stalls were open but some of the fruit and vegetable stands were starting to close and produce was limited. I didn't experience it or feel threatened but I hear that pickpockets are rife so be careful with belongings.

  Massive markets are a must see in Riga  - The food markets located in the old Zeppelin hangers are a must see when visiting Riga. There are fruit stands on the outside and five hangers full of stalls... read more inside. We bought some berries and pastries for breakfast, but were unable to get any of the smoked meat, fish or sausages except for deli meat for sandwiches for our bus trip. I liked to just amble around and look at all the food items common in Riga that we don’t have access to in the U.S.

  Riga Market trip  - Really interesting market, we went in March and it was quiet, which was good. Different halls had different produce. The outside market is good as well.

  Central Market at Christmas  - Great place we usually visit at Christmas time. Wide choice of everything you need at your table during holidays. Including presents.

  Does what it says on the tin – it’s a marketplace.  - This marketplace is set in some old adjoining Zeppelin hangers and they sell lots of fruit, flowers, meat, clothes etc.
It is open every day, but can get crowded... read more in parts but is quite interesting to wander round and there is are tons of fruit there. As in all markets there are pick pockets operating according to the commentary on the canal boat ride that we took. Whilst you are there try some of the halvah there. I only knew that they had sesame ones but here there are many other types.
This is also a good place to have a snack/lunch as it’s cheaper than the old town area.
